Trump and Rubio say that an agreement with Iran could reopen the Strait of Hormuz
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, spoke about the negotiations to reach a peace agreement with Iran and stated that it will only happen if it is "excellent" for the USA, this Monday (25).
In a post citing several politicians from the Democratic Party who oppose his government, he countered the criticism he has been receiving, criticizing the agreement made by former Democratic President Barack Obama with Tehran and called opponents "losers".
"The agreement with Iran will be great and significant, or there will be no agreement at all. It will be exactly the opposite of the disaster of the JCPOA negotiated by the failed Obama administration, which opened a direct and unobstructed path for Iran to obtain nuclear weapons. No, I don't make agreements like that!", he said.
The nuclear agreement signed in 2015 between the Obama administration and Iran provided for limiting the Iranian nuclear program in exchange for the removal of international sanctions. Critics of the pact, including Israel, claim that part of the released resources was used by the Iranian regime to finance armed groups in the Middle East.

Earlier, on a visit to India, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the agreement could be concluded this Monday. He stressed that Israel has the right to defend itself against attacks and that the US would give diplomacy every chance before 'exploring alternatives'.
"We have what I think is something very solid on the table in terms of the ability to open the straits. Israel always has the right to protect itself if Hezbollah launches or is going to launch missiles at them, Israel has every right to respond to that. We think we could have some news last night, maybe today, I wouldn't jump to conclusions from that," he told reporters.
A day earlier, this Sunday (24), Trump said that the agreement to end the war with Iran has not yet been reached. it has not been seen by anyone, nor is it "fully negotiated". The US president also stated that the US relationship with Tehran "is becoming much more professional and productive".
"Negotiations are progressing in an orderly and constructive manner, and I have informed my representatives not to rush into an agreement while time is in our favor. (...) Both sides must remain calm and do everything right. There can be no mistakes! Our relationship with Iran is becoming much more professional and productive. They need to understand, however, that they cannot develop or acquire a nuclear weapon or bomb," he wrote.

The publication signals a new change in the president's tone regarding the negotiations. On Saturday (23), Trump said he thought the agreement was close to being concluded - hours later, he also stated that he would "blow them [the Iranians] into a thousand hells" if the two parties did not reach a consensus by this Sunday.
Today, however, the president said he had guided the representatives of the US not to be in a rush to negotiate an agreement with Tehran and that time is in the US government's favor. "Negotiations are progressing in an orderly and constructive manner", he published.
Negotiations between Iran and the United States to end the war in the Middle East, which began at the end of February, have been dragging on for weeks. A proposal made by Iran last week was rejected by Washington, which said it considered the terms insufficient.
One of the main American demands is the definitive end of Iran's nuclear program, which Tehran does. rejects.
Just this Sunday, the newspaper "New York Times" reported that the two countries reached a preliminary understanding: Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the delivery of its nuclear arsenal.

The information is attributed to an American official close to the negotiations.
The United States has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports since April, after Tehran practically paralyzed traffic through the Strait of Hormuz in response to American and Israeli attacks against Iran, which began on February 28.
Hormuz is a strategic corridor for world oil trade - before the conflict, around 20% of global production passed through there. The temporary closure put pressure on commodity prices around the world.
In this Sunday's post, Trump also makes reference to the nuclear agreement signed by Barack Obama in 2015. The pact provided for limiting the Iranian nuclear program in exchange for the removal of international sanctions.
Critics of the agreement, including Israel, claim that part of the released resources was used by the Iranian regime to finance armed groups in the Middle East.
