With less than five months to go before the first round of the 2026 elections, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) is preparing to fulfill the first agenda of the year in the North of the country.

Since January, Lula has completed a delivery schedule in all regions of the country, with the exception of the North. Starting the itinerary through the region, the president should go to Manaus (AM) between Tuesday (26) and Wednesday (27).

According to CNN, one of the agendas should be focused on signing the work order for the first approved lot of BR-319, the highway that connects Manaus to Porto Velho (RO). The tender for the repaving of the four lots has been concluded and the contracts for all sections are expected to be approved by the first week of June.

In addition to visiting BR-319, Lula is expected to deliver housing units from the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program in the state, in addition to the launch of a ferry financed by BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development).

CNN found that the PT member's agenda also includes visits to the construction of the New Port of Manaus Moderna and announcing the resumption of investments by Petrobras and the federal government in Amazonas.

Lula prioritizes the Southeast
In an election year, the president has, until now, prioritized visits to the southeast of the country. According to a CNN survey, Lula has been to the region 15 times since January this year.

Next comes the Northeast region, with eight PT members coming in the same period. The Central-West and South accumulate two and one visit from the current Chief Executive from January to May this year, respectively.

According to the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), the Southeast and Northeast concentrate the largest number of voters, followed by the South, North and Central-West.

In the 2018 elections, in which the candidates in the second round were Fernando Haddad (PT) and Jair Bolsonaro (PL), the PT lost in five of the seven states in the North region, winning only in Pará and Tocantins.

In 2022, when President Lula competed with now former President Jair Bolsonaro, the PT lost in four of the seven northern states. The party maintained its victories in Pará and Tocantins and managed to reverse the situation in Amazonas, taking victory in the state.
