A demonstration brought together around 60 people in the Jaguaré neighborhood, in the east of São Paulo, on Friday night (22). The act made claims related to Sabesp and the Government of São Paulo after the explosion of a house that affected hundreds of families in the region.


Residents gathered and blocked Avenida Presidente Altino, setting objects on fire and impacting traffic in the neighborhood. The Military Police and CET (Traffic Engineering Company) responded to the incident.

According to CET, detours for cars were made via Rua Santa Leonor. Heavy vehicles return via Avenida Presidente Altino itself.


To date, according to Sabesp, almost 800 families have already received assistance of R$5,000 and 300 properties have been inspected. The amount is paid by Sabesp and Comgás, together with the state government.

The affected residents receive compensation via Pix and are being accommodated in hotels, in addition to receiving support. According to the government, all other damages will be compensated by the companies responsible.


House explosion
A house exploded and caused a fire in the Alvorada neighborhood, in the Jaguaré region, in the west of São Paulo. According to the most recent update, around 160 people were affected and approximately 46 homes were closed.


According to the Fire Department, there was destruction of properties and victims were buried in the rubble. Three people were injured and two died. The victims were taken to the Osasco Regional Emergency Room.


According to firefighters, the injured are an employee of Sabesp - a company that worked together with Comgás -, rescued by people who were in the region, and two residents, treated by Samu and the Fire Department.


The fatal victims were Alex Sandro, aged 49, who died at the scene, and Francisco Altino, aged 62, who was admitted to the Osasco General Hospital.

In a statement, Sabesp informed that it maintains teams on site for social, psychological support and assistance to families. Read in full:


"Sabesp and Comgás maintain a joint task force to assist families impacted by the occurrence in Jaguaré, with a defined division of responsibilities. Comgás is responsible for emergency accommodation and temporary accommodation for displaced families. Sabesp operates in social assistance actions, payment of emergency aid and recovery of affected properties in the community. Sabesp maintains teams mobilized daily on site, providing social, psychological support and assistance to families. To date, 779 families have received emergency aid of R$5,000. In total, 300 properties were inspected, with cleaning actions, emergency repairs and permanent renovations already carried out in part of the impacted residences.


The Government of São Paulo informed that the two concessionaires are mobilized to provide housing solutions for residents. See:


"The Government of São Paulo and the concessionaires Sabesp and Comgás continue to be mobilized to provide housing solutions for families who lost their properties in the explosion in Jaguaré. The families continue to stay in hotels, which will be fully paid for by the concessionaires. The State, through CDHU, is offering affected residents housing alternatives such as transfer to furnished apartments, letter of credit for property acquisition and rental assistance. The cost of housing measures and furniture will be the responsibility of Sabesp and Comgás. The options presented by the state aim to speed up solutions so that affected families can resume their lives as soon as possible. As of this Friday (22), 31 families visited apartments suggested by CDHU, of which 20 opted for the proposed property.

Another six families chose to obtain a letter of credit and must present a property for definitive service."


Comgás reported that "it has been providing comprehensive assistance to families in Jaguaré. The company has provided accommodation in the region with support and full board, and continues to meet individual needs. Families will have places available in both hotels for as long as necessary."
