Singer Niall Horan, 32, revealed that his new release, the song "End of an Era", released on platforms this Friday (22), is a tribute to his friend and former bandmate Liam Payne. The singer died in October 2024, after falling from the balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
On his Instagram account, the Irish singer revealed to his fans that the song took on greater meaning after his friend's death. "Julian Bunetta, John Ryan and I started the original version of this song years ago. We rewrote it about four times and it never felt right," he said, talking about the song being released at the right time.
In an interview with the podcast "And The Writer is...", Niall spoke about longing, loss and the end of an era, which he understands as the moments they lived together in the band One Direction. "This song is about Liam, we just didn't know that yet", said the singer. "A sad side and a nostalgic side. And those are two of the feelings I have when I think about Liam: the sadness that he's no longer with us."

"Recording songs together, growing up together in a crazy industry, being all over the world, traveling and all the little moments we had in hotel rooms, being on stage and looking at each other on stage... all of that comes flooding back into this song, along with the sadness," he said.
