WARNING: this report contains reports of sexual violence that may be considered disturbing.
A Brazilian man was placed in preventive detention and prosecuted for rape, assault and sexual exposure of children, this Friday (22), as part of an investigation into sexual violence against children in preschools in Paris, France.
According to the Public Ministry of the French capital, in addition to the Brazilian, another unidentified man is also in pre-trial detention, accused of the same crimes.
The measure comes after a police operation that took 16 people into custody for interrogation on Wednesday (20). From this operation, three people were referred to the investigating judge for investigations: the "two men and one woman, monitors, aged between 30 and 51", accused of "acts of a sexual nature", according to a note from the MP.
The woman was released this Friday (22), but remains under judicial supervision. The association of parents of students Little Heroes of Saint-Do stated that it will contest the decision.
RFI found that Brazilian C., aged 51, is among the main suspects in the case.
Monitor of music workshops for children in nursery schools - equivalent to preschools in Brazil -, the man had already been under suspicion by authorities in the 7th district of Paris since November, following alerts from parents. Even so, according to one of the lawyers in the case, he would have been transferred to another school in the 15th district of the capital in December, instead of being suspended.
"I represent a family from the Volontaires nursery school (15th district) and another from the Saint-Dominique school (7th), whose children were victims of the Brazilian monitor. Both families filed rape complaints against him, who is one of the main suspects in this case", says lawyer Louis Cailliez.
The investigations are ongoing based on around 30 complaints filed by parents of students between the end of last year and February this year. The children were between 2 and 4 years old at the time of the events.
How did the parents become suspicious?
The mother of a 3-year-old girl, who was reportedly the victim of rape by the Brazilian at the school where he worked last year, spoke to RFI exclusively about how she began to suspect the abuse.
"He was a music teacher, a monitor during the extracurricular period and was the target of complaints between September and December by several parents, whose children complained of shouting, anger, but not sexual violence. There was a report at the school, recorded with a hidden camera, which was shown at the end of January on French TV, and we, all the parents, recognized it."
She says that, after the report, there were meetings at the school.
"Many parents noticed changes in behavior in their children and, by talking at the school, we were able to understand the missing pieces of the puzzle. rape against the Brazilian, he also reported another monitor for sexual assault and a third person, who would be C.'s assistant in the workshops.
"From what I understand from my daughter, it was C. who committed the rapes and there was an accomplice, someone who was present. We understand that the aggressor was C.; perhaps, with the testimonies of other children, the investigators will be able to clarify this and define the role of each one. But, in any case, I know that C. is the target of several rape complaints against several children at the Saint-Dominique school", he points out.
Relieved with the progress of the investigations, the mother just wants justice to be done for her 3-year-old daughter and the other children who were victims.
"It's been four months since we filed a complaint and nothing has happened. So we are relieved that this is finally being taken seriously and that there are arrests.
We hope he goes to prison. Our daughter felt really bad after talking, but she is getting better. We worry a lot about the future, whether she will be able to be happy, have a normal emotional life, whether she will be able to trust", says the mother.
'She was forced to give kisses to her private parts'
The father of a 4-year-old boy, in an interview with RFI, also claims to have realized the seriousness of the case after the report shown on French TV.
"As we really like music in the family, my son often went to the workshops in the afternoon. When the report came out on TV, we asked our son questions to find out what he had seen, heard or [if he had] suffered violence. He started telling us that this person forced him to kiss his private parts", says the father, who filed a complaint in February against the Brazilian monitor and three other school assistants.
The boy also confirmed to his father the participation of an accomplice.
"C. worked with another monitor. They isolated the children in pairs. Either they forced them [to give kisses], or the monitor kissed their buttocks while the other took photos or made videos", he says. "Unfortunately we don't know [how long the violence lasts], because our son has been at school for almost two years and this person was already there last year", he details. mouth.
Despite the case, the boy remains at the same school, after the removal of the monitors reported by his father and other families.
According to the father, the entire team at the extracurricular workshops has been renewed. "For now, my son is still at school, but next year he will go to another one. He wanted to stay because he has friends, he likes the teacher and says that now the 'bad guys' are no longer there", he explains.
Families did not receive psychological support
The father interviewed by RFI details that the families did not receive institutional psychological support, and his son, he and his wife paid private professional support to deal with the trauma.
Like other parents, he also complains about the lack of reactivity from the authorities, and the attitude of the school, which initially denied the children's accusations.
"The The only real contact was the mayor of Paris, Emmanuel Grégoire, who met us last week, apologized on behalf of the city hall and acknowledged that serious events had occurred. They failed to protect children. We trust in a system that did not know how to protect children under the age of 5", he denounces.
"We are waiting to find out if there will be criminal sanctions. Our son regularly asks us if 'the bad guys are in prison'. I want to be able to say yes. He is still afraid to see them", he concludes.
In a note sent to RFI, the Little Heroes of Saint-Do association expresses "immense indignation against the attackers, but also against the institutions, starting with the Paris city hall and the Saint-Dominique school, whose successive failures led to the dramatic situation we are experiencing today. (...) Despite the threats they suffered, our children had the courage to speak out. We are very proud of them - and we will not remain silent."
