Registrations of 100% electric vehicles recorded explosive growth of 175% in the first four months of the year. Compared to the same period in 2025, the jump was from 17,541 to 48,299 units, according to reports from Fenabrave (National Federation of Motor Vehicle Distribution).

This advance reflects a new competitive reality: Chinese electric vehicles are no longer a new entrant and are now establishing themselves as real competitors in the market, competing on equal terms, and often surpassing, Western and traditional manufacturers in the country.

The numbers
The trajectory of licensing over the period reveals a constant and robust pace of acceleration, with no signs of slowing down. The year started strong in January, recording more than 8,100 total registrations (a 125% jump compared to the previous year), BYD being responsible for 5,113 of them.

In February, the market maintained its momentum by registering another 8,654 units. The month marked the highest concentration rate for leader BYD, which put 6,759 cars on the streets alone, more than 78% of the total electric cars sold in Brazil. Meanwhile, the Chinese Geely and the North American GM were locked in a technical tie in second place, with just over 400 units each.

The real explosion in demand was concentrated in the second half of the four months, when the Brazilian market broke historical marks. In March, sales surpassed the tens of thousands barrier, reaching approximately 14 thousand registrations, an increase of 193% over the same period of the previous year.

In April, the number of licenses more than doubled compared to January, registering 17,468 registered trams (an increase of 273% compared to April 2025). At the end of the period, BYD isolated itself by surpassing the mark of 10 thousand monthly registrations, while Geely achieved its best result with 3,761 units, consolidating the sector's record volume.

A paradigm shift
The rapid advancement of Chinese automakers has transformed the dynamics of Brazilian dealerships. Traditional automakers, some active in the country for more than a century, have seen their electrification strategies challenged by commercial aggressiveness, delivery volume and the technological package offered by Chinese rivals.

The Brazilian consumer, historically conservative when it comes to switching brands, is overcoming the barrier of distrust. Today, the fight for market share in the electric vehicle segment occurs in terms of technical equality and reputation, forcing the traditional industry to accelerate local investments and review price lists so as not to lose competitiveness in the urban environment.

BYD Hegemony
It is undeniable that at the epicenter of this transformation is BYD. The manufacturer not only leads the segment, but established overwhelming dominance over all its competitors in the first four months of 2026. Of the total of 48,299 electric vehicles registered in the country from January to April, BYD accounted for 32,198 units, which represents around two-thirds of the entire electric vehicle market in Brazil.

This strength of branding and sales capillarity was evident in February, when the brand reached its peak in monthly participation, capturing more than 78% of all registrations in the period. BYD continues to separate itself from its competitors and dictate the pace and volume of the entire national sector.

A new design for the national market
Electrification in Brazil has reached a relevant point of maturity. While BYD is isolating itself in sales, brands like Geely are consistently expanding their portfolio and traditional giants like GM are structuring solid counteroffensives with new batches and models. For the remainder of 2026, the trend pointed out by Fenabrave reports is for technological competition to intensify, with the national market consolidated as the main hub for automotive competition in Latin America.
