Video: Young man asked his boyfriend to stop his car before he died in an accident

The Civil Police of Goiás are investigating the death of law student Kimmberlly Gisele Pereira Rodrigues, aged 21, in a car accident on May 4, on BR-060, in Alexânia, in the state of Goiás.

A video recorded by the young woman minutes before the accident shows that she was afraid of the way her boyfriend was driving the vehicle and asked him to stop.

The young woman died after the raid and her boyfriend, identified as Ivan Rodrigues Cardoso, was temporarily arrested for feminicide with possible intent.

According to the delegate investigating the case, the elements found indicate that the man had a jealous attack and took the risk of killing himself by driving the vehicle after consuming alcohol, demonstrating indifference for the victim's life.

The video recorded on Kimmberlly's cell phone and recovered by police was recorded nine minutes before the accident, around 00:20 on May 4.

You can hear the young woman's requests for Ivan to take her home. "Please, I'm scared. Ivan, please, let's go to my house." At the end of the video, Kimmberlly's boyfriend responds that "there's no point in recording".

Jealousy and alcohol
According to the investigation, on May 3, a Sunday, Ivan, Kimmberly and three friends spent the day at a farm drinking alcoholic beverages. Records of this consumption were made on Kimmberly's cell phone and in posts on Ivan's social networks around 8 pm.

The young people went to a bar in the city, where they stayed until midnight. There is a commercial record of Ivan purchasing and consuming more alcoholic beverages at exactly 00:00.

In a statement to the police, Ivan stated that he felt jealous of some boys who were talking to Kimmberly at the bar and a brief argument took place between the couple and their friends.

Already inside the car, one of the group's friends, who was sober, offered to drive the vehicle and get everyone home safely, but Ivan refused to hand over the steering. At that moment all the friends got out of the car and asked Kimmberly to get out too, but she refused and said he would take her home.

On the way, Kimmberly panicked due to the way her boyfriend was driving the vehicle, at which point she recorded the video expressing her fear.

In his statement, Ivan claimed that he saw a figure on the road, thought it was an animal and, when pulling the steering wheel, lost control of the vehicle.

According to the police, the coordinates extracted from the cell phone indicate that this video was recorded at km 25 of BR-060, with the car's speedometer reaching approximately 134 km/h.

Just 9 minutes after the video, at km 29.6 of BR-060, the vehicle overturned, and SAMU was called to assist. Kimmberly succumbed to her injuries and died, while Ivan survived.

In a statement, the suspect's defense says that the information disclosed does not represent reality and that the attribution of the case to a feminicide is hasty.

"Ivan Rodrigues Cardoso's defense clarifies that the information released to date does not reflect, in a faithful and technical way, the dynamics of the events that actually occurred.

This is, in theory, a car accident, the investigation of which is still in the initial phase of investigation by the competent authorities.

In this context, it is hasty to attribute the nature of femicide to the case before the conclusion of the investigative procedures and technical analysis of all the elements contained in the records.

The defense highlights that there is, to date, no definitive conclusion that indicates a deliberate intention to cause the tragic result, which is why it is essential that the case be handled with responsibility, caution and compliance with due legal process.

Ivan Rodrigues Cardoso deeply regrets what happened and expresses his solidarity with the victim's family and friends at this time of immense pain and consternation.

The defense also informs that it will adopt all applicable judicial measures to ensure the rights and constitutional guarantees of the person being investigated, including the filing of Habeas Corpus, with the aim of guaranteeing the correct application of the law, the regularity of the investigative procedure and respect for the principle of presumption of innocence.

Finally, the defense reaffirms its confidence in the institutions and believes that the facts will be duly clarified throughout the investigation, based on technical evidence and within the legal and constitutional parameters that govern the Democratic Rule of Law."
