The Mataripe Refinery, in Bahia, controlled by Acelen, part of the Mubadala group, increased gasoline by 3.6% on Thursday (21), indicating continued pressure on fuel prices in the international market. The price of the S-10 diesel remained stable compared to last week and the S-500 fell by 1.8%.

The readjustment takes place at a time of falling oil prices on the international market, in the face of new diplomatic advances between the United States and Iran to end the war in the Middle East and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. At around 10 am this Friday, the Brent commodity was down 1.39%, at US% 103.4 per barrel.

Despite the increase, gasoline from Mataripe remains 2% below the price charged in the Gulf of Mexico, according to the Brazilian Association of Fuel Importers (Abicom). In relation to diesel, the price at the Bahian refinery is 10% higher than abroad.

Petrobras

Petrobras has completed 116 days without changing the price of gasoline. The average lag in the state-owned refineries was 66% at the close of Thursday, leaving room for an increase of R$1.67 in the domestic market. The expectation is that the company will announce the adjustment of gasoline in the short term, after having joined the government subsidy program on the 20th.

The state-owned company informed, however, that the accession does not change the commercial strategy, which continues to take into account its market share, the optimization of refining assets and profitability in a sustainable manner, avoiding the passing on to domestic prices of the cyclical volatility of international prices and the exchange rate.

In an interview at the beginning of May, the president of Petrobras, Magda Chambriard, had stated that she was awaiting the approval of the Complementary Law Project (PLP) - which deals with the use of additional revenue from the rise in oil prices to offset the increase in gasoline on the domestic market - to announce the rise in fuel prices. The PLP is being processed in Congress.

More recently, Magda said that the increase in gasoline would come "right now", but warned of the drop in the price of ethanol, gasoline's main competitor, and the company must be careful not to lose market share.
