A report by the American newspaper The Washington Post revealed that former United States congressman George Santos, 37, son of Brazilian parents, is expected to request access to a new compensation fund from President Donald Trump's government.
The Trump administration has created a nearly $1.8 billion fund to compensate people who allege they were unfairly targeted by previous governments.
The so-called Anti-Arms Fund grew out of a settlement reached between the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Trump, one of his adult children, and the Trump Organization, in a lawsuit they filed in January over the unauthorized disclosure of Trump's tax information years ago.

Xuxa gets emotional watching Sasha's new brand fashion show; look
Presenter Xuxa Meneghel, 63, was moved this Wednesday morning (27) when she watched the fashion show for the new Monde...According to the newspaper, George Santos said on Wednesday (20) that he is not seeking compensation, but rather an apology from the government for what he claimed was "selective persecution". "For me, it's not a financial issue. I'm not injured. I can maintain my income," he declared. "I want to get the facts straight. I think this is a great way to do that."
Trump commuted the former congressman's sentence last year while he was serving a seven-year sentence on fraud charges that led to his expulsion from Congress.
"George Santos was a bit of a 'criminal', but there are many criminals across the country who are not forced to serve seven years in prison," the president wrote on the Truth Social network at the time. "George has been in solitary confinement for long periods of time and by all accounts has been terribly mistreated. So I just signed a Commutation, releasing George Santos from prison, IMMEDIATELY. Good luck George, have a great life," he added.

Trump's commutation occurred in October last year, just months after Santos surrendered on July 25 to serve 87 months in prison.
In August 2024, the former congressman pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated identity theft and wire fraud stemming from activities during his 2022 midterm campaign.
"I deeply regret my conduct," Santos said in court at the time. "I take full responsibility for my actions."
Trump Anti-Arms Fund
The nearly US$1.8 billion fund was created to compensate people who allege they were unfairly targeted by previous governments.
Trump previously separately sought more than $230 million in compensation for federal investigations brought against him during his first term and the previous administration.
The agreement links the government's alleged wrongdoing against the Republican leader to other actions taken during the Biden administration that have become a source of controversy among conservatives in recent years.
The federal government will issue a formal apology to Trump, Eric Trump and the Trump Organization, but they are prohibited from receiving any amount from the newly created fund.
The fund will be administered by a commission whose members are chosen by Trump's attorney general and who can be fired by the president at any time.
One of the five members will be chosen "in consultation" with Congress, although it is unclear what that advice will look like and how closely the attorney general will follow it.
The fund will process requests until the month before Trump's term ends. Any remaining balance will be returned to the federal government.
People who receive compensation from the fund will still have to pay taxes on the money.
Whoever receives payment from the fund is prevented from filing further complaints against the government for the same alleged conduct for which they are being compensated.
To be entitled to receive funds from the fund, the individual must present a "lawsuit" to the commission alleging that they have been the target of unfair discrimination by previous administrations.
The document does not specify what this action should include.
Who is George Santos
Former US congressman George Santos, 37, is the son of Brazilian parents and was born in New York.
He attracted controversy during his time on Capitol Hill over revelations that he lied about information on his resume and biography. Santos was sentenced to seven years in prison for fraud and misrepresentation.
He was expelled from the United States Congress in 2023 for ethical violations.
In a document released by the Chamber's Ethics Committee, "unprecedented and illegal conduct" was found, indicating that he sought to exploit his candidacy for personal profit.
The former congressman pleaded guilty in August 2024 to two of 23 criminal charges, which he faces for inflating fundraising numbers and falsifying donor names to qualify within the Republican Party to run for a seat in a New York district during the 2022 election campaign.
Santos faced an investigation into discrepancies in his professional and educational history, as well as other public claims he made about his biography.
In interviews with WABC radio and the New York Post - the first times he spoke publicly about the controversy - the former congressman acknowledged that he invented some facts.
Santos also admitted that he never worked directly for the financial companies Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, as he had previously suggested, but stressed that he worked for them through his company, claiming to the New York Post that it was a "poor choice of words" to say that he worked for them.
