Spotify has teamed up with Universal Music Group to allow users to create remixes and versions of songs from the label's artists using artificial intelligence, for an additional fee to the standard subscription.

The new feature, announced this Thursday (21), will only apply to artists who have given their consent, and both the original artist and songwriter will receive part of the revenue generated.
"For the first time, fans will be able to legally create covers and remixes from the catalogs of participating artists and songwriters, so that both the original artist and songwriter share in the value created," said Charlie Hellman, head of music at Spotify, during the company's investor day.
So far, Spotify had banned AI-generated music from an artist's work without their express permission, although it allows AI-created music generally, including content associated with AI-created musicians. Universal Music Group's Lucian Grainge called the initiative "firmly artist-centric, based on responsible AI" and said it will "drive the growth of the entire ecosystem."
Shows
During the event, Spotify also announced that it will give paid subscribers early access to purchase tickets to their favorite artists' shows. listening, including how often they stream a particular artist, the variety of tracks they listen to from their catalog, and whether they have saved songs in their library.
They will have about 24 hours to purchase up to two tickets through a partner sales platform.
Spotify said the initiative will help target tickets to real fans rather than resale bots, which have long frustrated audiences and artists alike.
