British police investigating Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor have said they may look into allegations of sexual misconduct as part of their probe into possible misconduct in public office while the former prince was the UK's trade envoy.

In an update released this Friday (22), Thames Valley Police renewed their appeal for anyone with information to come forward, saying they have also contacted lawyers for a woman who claimed she was taken to an address in Windsor for sexual purposes.

This meeting, published for the first time in January by the British broadcaster BBC, would have taken place in 2010 at Royal Lodge, the former prince's residence.

The woman's lawyer, Brad Edwards, of US firm Edwards Henderson, told the BBC that she was sent to the UK by sex offender Jeffrey Epstein when she was 20 and that, after spending a night with Mountbatten-Windsor, she was given a tour of Buckingham Palace.

Thames Valley Police had previously said they were aware of the allegations and on Friday made it clear that the force had not yet spoken to the alleged victim.

"We have contacted the woman's legal representative to confirm that, should she wish to file a police report, this will be taken seriously and handled with care, sensitivity and respect for her privacy and her right to anonymity," the police force said in a statement.

"We recognize how difficult it can be to talk about experiences of this nature, and any contact with the police will be guided by their wishes, when and if they feel ready and able to do so," the report added.

This was the first update from Thames Valley Police since the arrest of King Charles III's brother Mountbatten-Windsor in February at his new home in Sandringham, Norfolk, on allegations of misconduct in public office. He was released "under investigation" the same day.

The former prince has vehemently denied any wrongdoing in his dealings with Epstein and denied any personal gain arising from his role as British trade envoy.

The police force said it was continuing to examine "a number of aspects of alleged impropriety" following the US government's release of documents related to the Epstein investigation.

"Our investigation into misconduct in the exercise of public office is ongoing.

Impropriety in the exercise of public office is a crime that can take different forms, making this a complex investigation," said Oliver Wright, assistant chief constable at Thames Valley Police.

"We encourage anyone with information to contact us."

Disclosure of documents
The update came after the British government published, on Thursday, documents related to the appointment of Mountbatten-Windsor as trade envoy in 2001.

The government said it found no evidence that the former prince had been investigated for the role, and documents showed that his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, had pushed for his appointment to that position.

Mountbatten-Windsor stepped down in 2011 due to her ties to Epstein.

Documents previously released by the US Department of Justice appeared to indicate that Mountbatten-Windsor had shared confidential material with Epstein during his time as trade envoy.

British trade envoys are banned from sharing "sensitive, commercial or political information" about relevant markets or visits.

However, detectives have reportedly expressed concern that the public believes the police force is only focused on allegations that the former prince shared information during his time as trade envoy, when in fact the legal terms of the crime under investigation are much broader, British news agency PA Media reported on Friday.

The legal definition of the crime can include a wide range of conduct, including sharing confidential financial information, financial misconduct, willful neglect of duty and sexual misconduct, according to the PA.

It also covers corruption, undue interference, conflict of interest and other forms of misconduct.

Police said they were supporting other national police forces in contacting Epstein victims and survivors.

"We expect anyone with relevant information to come forward when they are ready to engage with us; our door is always open," said the police force.
