Rafaela Silva and Bia Souza comment on their judo debut at Spaten Fight Night

During the press conference for the third edition of Spaten Fight Night, held on Thursday night (21), at the Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu, in São Paulo, Rafaela Silva and Beatriz Souza commented on the debut of judo at the event, which for the first time will bring together different combat modalities in addition to boxing.

The Olympic medalists spoke about preparing for the clashes, the expectation of taking judo to a new audience and the challenges of high performance on and off the mat. While the Rio 2016 Olympic champion will face Prisca Awiti Alcaraz, Bia Souza will face Raz Hershko.

When talking about the duel, Beatriz told CNN Brasil that the public can expect "a lot of determination, strength and will" on the mat. The judoka also highlighted that the confrontation will serve as strategic preparation for future competitions.

"It's an important fight and an important opponent. What defines victory and defeat is the detail, and we can only do that by studying", he explained to CNN.

Rafaela recalled her career in judo and the challenges she faced since her childhood in Cidade de Deus, in Rio de Janeiro. "I say a lot that I didn't choose judo, judo chose me", he stated.

The athlete also highlighted that she wants to inspire other peripheral and black girls to stay in the sport. "When I lost my first Olympics, I heard that, because of my color, I would never be better than anyone else. Today I am here as a world champion and Olympic champion," she declared.

New modalities and debut at Pacaembu mark the third edition
In addition to the traditional boxing fights, the third edition of Spaten Fight Night will feature the inclusion of modalities such as judo and jiu-jitsu on the event card. The proposal, according to the organizers, is to expand the public's experience and bring together different combat sports references on the same night.

Another novelty is the stage chosen to host the event: the Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu, in São Paulo. The arena will host Spaten Fight Night for the first time, which takes place on August 29th and promises to create an atmosphere of nostalgia, rivalry and celebration of the great legends of the sport.
