TIC Trens evaluates new projects and targets São Paulo-São José dos Campos train

The Comporte group, owned by the Constantino family (controlling company of Gol Linhas Aéreas), is interested in new medium-speed train projects for passengers in the state of São Paulo.

The company, together with the Chinese CRRC, holds the concession for the Intercidades Train that will be implemented between the capital of São Paulo and Campinas. Other developments are on the radar.

For now, the biggest focus is on the São Paulo-São José dos Campos project, which is being studied by the state government and still has no auction date.

"It's quite interesting because the passage [of the trains] is close to lines 11, 12 and 13," the CEO of TIC Trens, Pedro Moro, responsible for implementing the São Paulo-Campinas train, told CNN.

Last year, the Comporte group won the auction for lines 11-Coral, 12-Safira and 13-Jade from CPTM (Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos). The operation will take over on July 21st.

The TIC Sorocaba, scheduled for auction in 2027, is seen by the group as a more complex implementation project. Moro does not rule out participation, but recognizes that it inspires more "care".

The explanations were given by Moro during the weekly program Conexão Infra.

"The TIC Sorocaba is an extremely interesting project, with demand that is significant, but with implementation difficulties. There is a section that can carry out all practically greenfield works, from Barueri to Sorocaba, which represents almost two thirds of the route and has no major interference", explains the executive.

"But, from Barueri until almost arriving at Água Branca station, you have to work within the line 8 concessionaire's right-of-way. This creates a huge difficulty."

"In order to have a viable business, the analysis has to go through many other aspects in addition to simple implementation. The work is within the right-of-way, with thousands of passengers per day. It is a much more complex implementation and, therefore, the group looks a little more carefully."

Work on the Intercidades Train began in the second fortnight. The express service between São Paulo and Campinas, with a speed of up to 140 km/h and a duration of 64 minutes, will open to the public in 2031.

Before that, in 2029, the metropolitan service between Jundiaí and Campinas should begin operating - with three intermediate stops. In addition to them, TIC Trens already operates CPTM Line 7-Rubi.
