In recent weeks, the fundamentalist group that governs Afghanistan published the document entitled "Principles of Separation Between Spouses", which changes the legislation on marriages in the country. In this way, a common tragedy in rural regions was made official as law: child marriage. In practice, the Taliban overturned the minimum age for marriage, which was 16 years old: now, girls up to 9 years old are subjected to forced marriage. The text also establishes an extreme interpretation of consent: the silence of a "virgin girl" must be understood as a "yes". The measure is seen by international experts as the institutionalization of child rape and domestic violence.
Guest: Adriana Carranca, writer and journalist, participated in special coverage in Afghanistan and other regions of the Middle East.
The podcast O Assunto is produced by: Luiz Felipe Silva, Sarah Resende, Carlos Catelan, Luiz Gabriel Franco, Juliene Moretti, Stéphanie Nascimento and Guilherme Gama. Presentation: Natuza Nery.
