The deadline for obtaining or regularizing your voter registration card for the 2026 elections ends this Wednesday (6). To check whether there are pending issues with the Electoral Court, simply access the page tse.jus.br, select "Electoral Status" and enter your CPF. At the same address, in the "Self-service" field, it is also possible to request a voter registration card for the first time.

Voting is mandatory for literate people between 18 and 70 years of age. Voting is optional for young people aged 16 and 17, for elderly people over 70 and for illiterate people.

Anyone who turns 18 between the first and second rounds - which will be held on October 4th and 25th - is obliged to vote in the second round. Anyone who is 15 years old now, but will be 16 years old on voting dates, can request the document if they want to vote.

In the case of voting in transit, which allows the voter to vote temporarily in a municipality other than the one registered in the electoral register, the deadline for requesting it is from July 20th to August 20th.

Those who have biometrics can use online services

The only need to seek in-person assistance is for those who are going to obtain their first registration (voter registration) or those who need to make any changes to their electoral registration and do not yet have their biometrics collected. Voters who already have biometric identification can request any service online, through the Self-Service platform, without leaving home.

Biometrics are not mandatory for voting

Before looking for a notary's office, people are advised to check the status of their title or biometrics to avoid queuing or unnecessary travel. It is important to highlight that voters who do not have biometrics, but are in good standing with the Electoral Court, will be able to vote normally by presenting a photo ID on the day of the election.

Documents required for face-to-face service

Whoever is going to get their first title must go to the electoral registry with an identification document with a photo, such as an ID card, and proof of recent residence in their name or the name of the person they live with. Electricity, water or telephone bills are accepted. Males who turn 19 in 2026 also need to carry a military discharge certificate (reservist). All electoral services are free, with occasional charges only for fines owed by those who did not vote or justify their absence.
