For the third consecutive year, Gavião Peixoto, in the interior of São Paulo, was elected the city with the best quality of life in Brazil. On a scale of 0 to 100, the municipality with less than 5 thousand inhabitants scored 73.1 points in the Social Progress Index (IPS), released this Wednesday (20).

Coordinated by the international organization Social Progress Imperative (SPI), the publication evaluates the 5,570 Brazilian municipalities based on 57 social and environmental indicators collected from public sources, divided into three dimensions: basic human needs, foundations of well-being and opportunities.

12 of the 20 best-ranked cities are located in the state of São Paulo. The podium is entirely from São Paulo, with Gavião Peixoto in the lead and Jundiaí and Osvaldo Cruz following. At the other end, with the worst scores, are Uiramutã (42.44), Jacareacanga (44.32) and Alto Alegre (44.72), all in the northern region of the country.
