Ao lado de nomes como Minor Threat, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, Bad Brains, e outras, são frequentemente considerados uma das principais bandas do renascimento punk dos anos 1980. Martin Luther King Jr. foi um pastor batista e ativista político estadunidense que se tornou a figura mais proeminente e líder do movimento dos direitos civis nos Estados Unidos de 1955 até seu assassinato em 1968. King é amplamente conhecido pela aplicação do princípio da desobediência civil e da não violência à luta por direitos políticos, inspirado por suas crenças cristãs e pelo ativismo não violento de Mahatma Gandhi.
