Track no. 9 on disc 1 of The Godfather 50th Anniversary expanded and remastered edition:
The Halls Of Fear (Extended Version).
The rendition compiled for the 1972 soundtrack was not actually what played in the film for Michael's
visit to the hospital. Composed by Nino Rota and conducted by Carlo Savina, Rota had fittingly
called this melody "Hospital". It would take more than half a century for it to be released on the
2022 50th anniversary re-issue as The Halls Of Fear Pt. 1 (Film Version) alongside this version.
While said film version is an totally distinct recording, the OST version is a close variation of
this one here. It uses the melody to Michael's Theme and Meditation. The cello, string section and
piano do keep playing in the background. The former does so with tremolo. The bassoon too being in
the background will be out of range and can be optionally played with fretted harmonics: Fret the
note and put the index finger of the picking hand 12 frets higher, striking it with the thumb.
The trumpet and oboe will play the lead. The clarinet and horn are too heard with some percussion.
