Track no. 12 on disc 1 of The Godfather 50th Anniversary expanded and remastered edition:
Set The Meeting / Michael Takes Over.
Another mashup. Set The Meeting starts to fade in from it's preceeding clue (Armed And Ready) after the scene
transitions from Michael being escorted away by Tom after McCluskey just broke his jaw outside the hospital.
Men are shown guarding the Corleone compound as this melody begins to play. It stops as abruptly as it began
when Michael and Clemenza step out of the car. This is where the music halts and there will be none heard for
the next few minutes. Despite it's title, this does not actually underscore Michael's dialogue a few moments
later as he sits in the office with his brothers and father's caporegimes and speaks the line "Let's set
the meeting".
Only a fragment of these 1 minute and 19 seconds were used in the movie. And through all my viewings, I have
not been able to spot the second half of this track, Michael Takes Over. Franco Sciannameo's book "Nino Rota's
The Godfather Trilogy" also did not include a cue of that name or anything recorded for use in the scenes.
Anyhow, both were composed by Nino Rota and conducted by Carlo Savina.
The bassoon, trumpet, clarinet, oboe, viola, cello and background string section are playing a twist of the
Godfather Waltz melody here. One F# note in the lowest voice is going to be out of range, so we'll have to
move up, rather than down in pitch for it. Mandolin transposal in standard tuning GDae.
