Track no. 33 on disc 1 of The Godfather 50th Anniversary expanded and remastered edition:
Set The Meeting (Alternate).
Not heard in the movie, unlike it's "mother track" Set The Meeting, which was also put on this re-release as
a mash up with the another cue titled Michael Takes Over. It is a transitional score that starts to play as
Michael arrives with Clemenza at the heavily guarded Corleone compound after the hospital incident. What
already was a short track there is now shorter at just 40 seconds.
Composed by Nino Rota and conducted by Carlo Savina. The background strings, cello, viola, oboe, clarinet,
trumpet and bassoon are playing here. There is one note out of range for us at the lowest pitch, an F#.
Which we must therefore move an octave up. The orchestration is one and the same to the regular version of
Set The Meeting, only the lead is now playing a very interesting, different variation of the melody line to
The Godfather Waltz. Changing only a few notes managed to almost reharmonize the entire theme. Mandolin
transposal in standard tuning GDae.
