Track no. 21 on disc 1 of The Godfather 50th Anniversary expanded and remastered edition: Marry Me, Kay.
Composed by Nino Rota and conducted by Carlo Savina, this cue was included in Rota's score presentation.
It is heard in the movie at two different points. First as Michael is on his way to the meeting with Sollozzo
and McCluskey; Sonny assures him that he get in touch with Kay on his behalf when he thinks the time is right.
Second in between the other cues The New Godfather and Autumn (the latter remaining unreleased) after Michael
has returned from exile and seeks Kay in New Hampshire; He takes her for a walk and asks her to trust him
about his business and to marry her. Released in 2022, it is part of what already was track no. 10
(The New Godfather) on the 1972 OST.
Comparing this to that version, it is identical to the first segment of the OST version up until 1:11.
Cutting off before the second segment enters, which also found it's way onto the re-release under the title
The New Godfather (Film Version). Meaning that first segment is this exact track and not a re-recording or
arrangement. When I tabbed the OST version some years ago, I focused on the melody line. This time, I also
included the other voices.
The two clarinets and oboe will be switching between playing the same lead part in the high and low octave,
respectively, as well as playing different parts for the first and second voices. The string section is
playing with a continuous tremolo. There are also flutes, a horn, celeste , piano and cello. Quietly in
the background, a harp plays some ornaments. Transposal to the mandolin in GDae standard tuning.
