Track no. 30 on disc 1 of The Godfather 50th Anniversary expanded and remastered edition:
Main Title (Alternate). Composed by Nino Rota and conducted by Carlo Savina for the movie.
Despite the name, this 2022 re-release is not an alternate take or recording, but a short cue that was used
to edit together track no. 1 [Main Title - (The Godfather Waltz)] on the 1972 release. And therefore a
shortened version of something I have tabbed in the past. For this re-release, I wanted to expand and include
not just the main melody in the foreground, but also what creates the ambience in the background.
Comparing this to that version, Main Title (Alternate) is identical to the second half of
Main Title (The Godfather Waltz) timestamped at 0:39-1:12.
The cornet plays the melody. The percussion soon enters with the brass and winds, playing accents within
octaves. Mandolin transposal in standard tuning, GDae.
