Mandolin transcript & transposal. GDae tuning. Soundtrack version released on the 1972 OST as well as the 2022 50th Anniversary Edition. Composed by Nino Rota, conducted by Carlo Savina. Afinação: E A D G B ECapotraste: Sem capotraste Track no. 7 on disc 2 of The Godfather 50th Anniversary expanded and remastered edition: Love Theme From The Godfather. This soundtrack version was not actually what we heard in the movie - Where it played as the scene transitions from Don Vito recovering in his home in New York, having it reported to him that Michael killed McCluskey and Sollozzo, to images of the countryside in Sicily. That version too was finally included on this 2022 OST, titled Love Theme From The Godfather (Film Version) [track no. 16 on disc 1] and can also be found among my tabs. The theme was composed by Nino Rota and conducted by Carlo Savina. Both the 1972 original [also track no. 7 there] and the 2022 re-issue of the soundtrack version are the same track. The latter just having remastered audio. In fact, even the film version is the same recording; With this soundtrack having been edited to make the harp more prominent and overlay a mandolin, bass, drums, vocal choir and a guitar outro providing additional bars to this OST, bumping up it's length. The mandolin is only playing during the first 28 seconds before entirely cutting out. Years ago, I transposed the melody line from the other instruments and transcribed the mandolin part. Since then with the re-release, I have expanded upon my transcript and tabbed the film version in it's entirety. I therefore now would like to fill in the gaps here as well and include the second voices. To give room for the lower string and brass orchestra, I transposed the string section an octave higher than previously. Besides the aforementioned voices, there are also going to be the strings, clarinet, oboe, horn, flute and accordion. Transcript of the mandolin part and transposal of the others in standard tuning GDae. Some history on this piece: The 1958 movie Fortunella first used this motif. Then going back to The Godfather, the track Apollonia too used the melody and was actually the first of the two cues to be written by Rota. Brucia La Terra followed in Part III. The entire film trilogy saw it being re-used as a segment in a lot of other tracks. Speak Softly Love was the adaption with lyrics by Larry Kusick. Al Martino, who portrayed Johnny Fontane in the movies, recorded a version. The first one was by Andy Williams! Other than the Sicilian... Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Czech, Croatian, Japanese, Greek and many other versions would join over the following years.
