Not to be mistaken with The Godfather Finale, which was the closing track (no. 12) of the 1972 original soundtrack release and a mashup of various themes. This here cue was finally put on the 2022 re-release, as it played at the end of the film. Kay and Michael embrace; She had just confronted him about whether Connie's accusation that he had her husband Carlo killed is true. It keeps playing through the last scene of the movie, which shows Kay going to get a drink and being both figuratively and literally shut out of the "family" life as Al Neri closes the door on her. After the screen fades to black, the credits begin to roll and so does the next cue. Composed by Nino Rota and conducted by Carlo Savina, this is a reduction of the theme The Godfather Waltz, or the melody of the Main Title. The guitar plays gently in the background as the oboe leads the melody, soon joined by a string section. The trumpet will then take over the lead, now being joined by a clarinet, two horns, a bassoon, cello and accordion. Said strings are going to start off by playing pizzicato, which would be fingerplucking on bowed instruments. It later seemlessly moves to arco, which marks a return to bowing. For the contrast, I may suggest that on the mando the pizzicato should be plucked by the fingers as well, while the arco would be played with a plectrum.
