Bad Luck / Sicilian Message / Meditation.
Again, better said: Tracks. This combining three cues in one. The first taking it's name from when
Sollozzo tells Tom that the Don is still alive after they hit him with five shots. "Well, that's bad
luck for me and bad luck for you if you don't make that deal!". The second as Tessio brings Sonny a
package that has been left at the gate; A fish wrapped in a bulletproof vest. Clemenza remarks: "It's a
Sicilian message... It means Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes". The third is a segment that was used
to create another cue, but wasn't placed in the movie as a standalone. Medtitation plays as part of
The Halls Of Fear, which underscores Michael arriving at the hospital to visit his father.
Across these cues, a piano, bassoon, horn, oboe, clarinet, viola, cello, guitar, trumpet and string section
are playing. Said piano will be alternating between playing slash chords in the first and second, as well
as the first and third octave. For the lowest pitch part of the bassoon, we could be optionally be playing
fretted harmonics; Fretting a note and placing the index finger of the picking hand 12 frets higher, then
striking it with the thumb.
After the brooding intro, the melody line of Bad Luck is going to be that of The New Godfather or
Michael's Theme. Sicilian Message ever so slightly hints at The Godfather Waltz. Then Meditation reverts
to The New Godfather. There will be very brief pauses between the fading cues. Mandolin transposal in
standard tuning, GDae.
