Track no. 11 on disc 1 of The Godfather 50th Anniversary expanded and remastered edition: Armed And Ready.
After McCluskey broke Michael's jaw in front of the hospital, Tom and Clemenza carry him to their car.
It then plays for a handful of seconds before the scene dissolves to the Corleone compound and part of
the next cue (Set The Meeting) begins to play. The full version of this re-release brings it up to a still
quite short 31 seconds.
Transposal to the mandolin in standard tuning, GDae. Composed by Nino Rota and conducted by Carlo Savina,
the melody twists hints of the Godfather Waltz, but mostly consists of what Rota titled in his notes as
"non-thematic material".
It's a very low pitch track with the tuba, bassoon and cello drowning out the higher accents of the clarinet,
trumpet and horn, as well as the rather imperceptible guitar. In order to fit this into the mando, I
transposed the lowest register as fretted harmonics. For which we will still be producing overtones like in
a natural harmonic, but do so by fretting a note on the fingerboard and placing the index finger of the
fretting hand 12 frets higher (example: 1st fret = 13th fret) while plucking the string with the thumb or
the plectrum.
