Antico Canto Siciliano.
This melody is heard multiple times from different instruments in the longer cuts of the movie, such as
The Godfather Saga, The Godfather: The Complete Novel For Television, The Godfather: The Complete Epic, etc.
In the standard theatrical release, it plays during Michael's wedding to Apollonia in Sicily. The title
translates to "Ancient Sicilian Song", but Coppola neglected to note that it is a piece of folk known by
the name of Mi Votu E Mi Rivotu. Dating back to at least 1867.
Unlike the track Connie's Wedding, this, despite it's short length at 58 seconds, is not an audio rip from
the movie scene, but a dedicated recording that was finally released in 2022 on the 50th anniversary edition
of the movie's soundtrack. Since it didn't make it onto Nino Rota's official 1972 score, Carmine Coppola
conducted and re-arranged The Godfather's Family Wedding album later that year, including this song.
That version features vocals and a mandolin can also be found among my tabs.
This one remains an instrumental. Featuring a brass orchestra, just like seen in the movie. A trumpet leads
the melody, while the tuba or trombone plays the octave below for most, but not all notes. At the end of the
bars, these lower pitches, as well as the clarinet and the flute take turns in leading us into the next one.
The percussion is provided by the bass drum and cymbals. There is also an audio overlay of applause.
Transposed to the mandolin in GDae standard tuning.
