According to Jamie you can play Cm instead of Adim7 but following the melody it sounds
much better with Adim7.
The bassline is pretty dominant and often plays a different root note.
This becomes very obvious on the diminished A chord (Adim) where the bass plays an Eb
followed by F and G.
If you wanted to implement this you could play Adim7 - F7 - Eb/G (but it's a lillte
awkward to play).
If you transposed the song from G to C it's quite nice to play though. You could then
play Bbdim7 - Bb7 - Ab/C.
