O conteúdo das letras geralmente aborda a espiritualidade, política e a religiosidade, sendo que os recentes álbuns também abrangem temas como guerra, violência, agressão, escravidão e ódio. A banda lançou até agora dez álbuns de estúdio, um EP, dezenove singles e um DVD. Seu disco de estreia, auto-intitulado Soulfly, lançado em abril de 1998, recebeu certificado de ouro pela RIAA.
